What is the purpose of microbial testing?

Microbial testing is crucial to ensure that cannabis consumers are not being exposed to biohazardous contaminants. SQRD Lab provides pathogen specific tests such as Salmonella, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, and Aspergillus, to ensure products are free from infectious microorganisms and, therefore, safe for human consumption. Pathogenic molds and bacteria can find their way into cannabis products while growing or during subsequent handling, processing, manufacturing, or packaging.

HOW SQRD LAB DETECT DANGEROUS PATHOGENS

Sometimes called "molecular photocopying", polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Is a technique used by SQRD Lab to detect if pathogens are present in a cannabis product.

We enrich samples with nutrient-filled broths to provide optimal growth environment for the microbes. The DNA is then extracted from the cells and the target sequence is amplified, resulting in reliable semi-quantitative analysis.
